As we come to the end of the first half of the Summer Term 2012 staff begin to plan for Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Jubilee Celebrations with the children. Staff are keen for all children to take part at their own level. Most importantly everyone would like the children to remember, with fondness, the feeling of fun and excitement on this special day. We hope that you have a special day too.
The official site
The official site for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee has a range of information for everyone. We particularly like the logos which can be downloaded and used on a wide range of items for creative work with children. Take a look at the timeline with older children at this link http://www.thediamondjubilee.org
I’m the King of the Castle.....
Become a King of Queen for the day, and get into the role. You can have knighthoods and servants, butlers and maids for the day as children re-enact life in a palace. Make crowns from paper and collage materials before hand, as a prop.
Flagged Down
Cut out rectangular shapes from paper or lightweight card. Let children design their own flags by looking at colours and designs. Use a variety of mark making tools such as felt tip pens, pencil crayons, wax crayons and paints. Help children to attach their finished designs onto sticks. Then off they go to practise their waving and cheering.
Make buns or biscuits with children in advance. On the morning of your special event help children to decorate their items using icing pens. Show children pictures or designs to get their imaginations going. Crowns and Union Jacks as well as diamonds and ‘60s’ should do it.
Street Theme
Make bunting with children beforehand. Cut triangular pieces from either fabric or paper. Let children decorate their own piece with a motif or image. Younger children could simple do hand or foot prints in red and blue. Laminate the triangles making sure to name the art work. Join together using string or ribbon. Hang in or outdoors to make a unique row of bunting for your children. A great souvenir too. Of course a coin as well is always nice, our PTA have donated a special one to all our lovely children. Thank you.
